Sony was developing a fourth MCU Spider-Man film by August 2019, and producer Amy Pascal revealed in November 2021 that it was intended to be the first in a new trilogy starring Holland. Work on the story began that December, with Holland more involved in development than he was for the previous films. McKenna and Sommers returned as writers by February 2023, Cretton was hired to direct by October 2024, and the title derived from the 2008 comic book storyline "Brand New Day" that reset Spider-Man's status quo was announced in March 2025. The producers wanted Holland's Peter to be a "proper Spider-Man" for the first time, on his own and fighting street-level crime in New York City. Ahead of filming, Bernthal and Ruffalo were revealed to be reprising their MCU roles of Frank Castle / Punisher and Bruce Banner / Hulk. Filming took place from August to December 2025, with location filming in Glasgow, Scotland, and throughout England. Soundstage work occurred at Pinewood Studios in England.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day premiered at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles, on July 27, 2026, and is scheduled to be released in the United States on July 31, as part of Phase Six of the MCU. The film received positive reviews from critics.

Following Dr. Stephen Strange's spell, the world has forgotten that Peter Parker exists.[a] Four years later, Peter has been anonymously protecting New York City as its celebrated hero Spider-Man, though in his personal life he distances himself from others.

Peter intervenes when a tank rampages through the city and breaks into the Department of Damage Control (DODC) building. The driver has been telepathically possessed, and the telepath jumps from person to person, evading capture. The breakout allows Mac Gargan, an enhanced criminal Peter had previously captured,[b] to escape. Peter makes inquiries with Yelena Belova, who tells him someone has been repeatedly attacking the DODC in search of "V-Max". Peter questions DODC official Bill Metzger, who claims ignorance of the telepath.

Peter has a chance encounter with Ned Leeds and Michelle "MJ" Jones-Watson, who have moved back to New York after graduation. Ned and MJ do not recognize him, and MJ has a new boyfriend. Peter returns home in distress, and the next morning wakes up with heightened senses and organic webs coming out of his wrists. He tracks down Gargan, now possessed, as he tries to break back into the DODC. Gargan mocks him, and Peter reacts with uncharacteristic violence, beating him into unconsciousness.

Hoping to control his new mutations, Peter speaks to Dr. Bruce Banner to ask about the inhibitor device that suppresses his Hulk side. Based on Banner's advice, Peter fashions his own inhibitor to limit his powers, and starts work on a second to suppress the telepath's abilities. Before Peter can finish, the telepath finds him at home and, after learning about MJ, tricks Peter into revealing his face, kissing him as MJ. Peter concedes defeat after narrowly saving her, though he sees the telepath directly and takes a photo of her with his HUD.

Peter takes MJ to Frank Castle's hideout to keep her safe. With Castle's equipment and MJ's insight, Peter completes both inhibitors, and finds out the telepath is named Jean Grey. When Jean attacks the DODC again, this time in person and using a possessed Hulk, Peter subdues her and turns her over to Metzger, who mentions that Jean was looking for a person named Sara. When Peter returns, MJ confronts him with the letter he wrote for her and Ned explaining the spell that erased their memories. He explains himself, but MJ apologizes because she does not know him or reciprocate his feelings. She invites him to her apartment, and he spends time bonding with her and Ned.

After hearing MJ describe that she cannot remember anything while being possessed, Peter realizes Metzger lied to him. He contacts Yelena, who learns from redacted DODC files that Sara is Jean's sister, who was kidnapped by the DODC. The only clue she has is "V-Max", a message she heard telepathically from Sara, but Metzger does not know what it means and continues to experiment on Jean's mind. Jean realizes "V-Max" is the text on the air vent above the holding cell, the last thing Sara saw before she died. Enraged, Jean's abilities grow more powerful, and she psionically locks the city around her.

Peter is partially immune to Jean's abilities and enters the DODC to stop her. Jean rebuffs him and possesses a large group of the Hand ninjas for him to fight. He removes his inhibitor and embraces his new mutations, gaining enhanced strength, speed and organic webs. Peter allows Jean to read his mind, where she finds a memory of his aunt May, who accepted his abilities and loved him for himself. Peter offers Jean understanding over her loss and deliberately puts himself between her and Castle when he tries to snipe her from outside, sustaining a near-fatal wound.

Peter wakes in the hospital with Castle, who explains that Jean kept him alive while in critical condition. In the aftermath, a guilt-ridden Jean quietly leaves the city, the DODC comes under investigation, and Peter vows he does not need to be alone to be Spider-Man. When he sees Ned again, he introduces himself. In a post-credits scene, Ned's "Spidey Tracker" appears to show Spider-Man located out of Earth.
